Central Square Theater’s resident youth ensemble, Youth Underground (YU), creates and performs original theater that investigates social issues relevant to young people.

Derived from interviews among youth and the Cambridge community, The Good Patriot is a study on nationalism, and how it has changed in the United States over the last couple years. The play takes place at a high school’s first model UN conference, where the delegates get to question the US, and find out how youth are feeling about the country today. Per the title, the script asks one question: What does it mean to be a good patriot today?

Staged readings of The Good Patriot are free. Seating is limited, so advance reservations are recommended, though every event will accommodate walk-ups, capacity permitting.
